A Lassi Legacy: A Taste of India

Lassi is a popular yogurt-based drink originating from the Indian subcontinent. Traditionally enjoyed in Punjab, India, lassis come in various flavors, with mango lassi being a refreshing favorite during the hot summer months.

A Symphony of Flavors: Sweet, Tangy, and Refreshing

The beauty of mango lassi lies in its simple yet delightful combination of flavors:

  • Sweetness: Ripe mangoes provide a burst of natural sweetness, making the lassi a perfect sweet treat.
  • Tanginess: Yogurt adds a balancing tanginess that complements the sweetness of the mangoes.
  • Creaminess: The yogurt base creates a smooth and creamy texture, making the lassi highly refreshing.
  • Minty Twist: Fresh mint leaves add a cooling sensation and a touch of aromatic freshness, elevating the lassi to a whole new level.

Ingredients

  • 2 mango peeled, pitted, and cubed mango / alternatively 1 cup ready mango pure
  • 1 cups yoghurt
  • 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 5-6 leaves fresh mint
  • 2-3 pieces ice cubes

Instructions

  • Start by peeling, pitting, and cubing the ripe mangoes. Make sure to remove as much of the fruit as possible. If you're using frozen mango, allow it to thaw slightly. If you are using ready mango pure, you use 1/4 cup per glass and drop honey.
  • In a blender, add the cubed mangoes and blend until you have a smooth mango puree. If you prefer a colder lassi, you can also add a handful of ice cubes at this stage.
  • Pour in the plain yogurt and milk. Blend again until everything is well combined and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Add honey to the blender. Start with 2 tablespoons and adjust to your preferred level of sweetness. Blend once more to incorporate the honey.
  • Tear the fresh mint leaves and add them to the blender. This will infuse your lassi with a delightful hint of minty freshness.
  • Sprinkle in the ground cardamom, which will add a lovely hint of exotic flavor to your lassi.
  • Blend all the ingredients one more time until everything is well mixed. Taste and adjust the sweetness, if needed.
  • Refrigerate the mango lassi for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and to chill it further. Before serving, garnish with a sprig of fresh mint leaves and a pinch of ground cardamom for an extra touch of elegance. Pour the chilled Mango Lassi into glasses and serve immediately. It's the perfect drink to beat the heat and savor the tropical goodness of mangoes with a refreshing twist of mint and cardamom.
