Mushroom & Oatmeal Burger: A Garden-Inspired Veggie Delight 🌿🍔

At our first ever community event for TREVL, a non-profit rooted in sustainable living and local connection, we kicked things off with the Heltnehagen project—and what better way to celebrate than with food straight from nature?

That’s where the Mushroom & Oatmeal Burger was born—first tried at our Garden Info Fest, and instantly a hit! This plant-forward burger is hearty, packed with umami from a mix of mushrooms, and filled with spice and texture. It’s easy to make, endlessly customizable, and perfect for grilling on an open fire or cooking in your kitchen.

🌍 Why We Love It:

This burger is more than just a meal—it’s a celebration of community, nature, and simple, nourishing food. Whether you’re hosting an event or just craving a veggie burger that actually satisfies, this one delivers.

Feel free to experiment with ingredients. Add grated carrots, sunflower seeds, or even a splash of soy sauce for extra depth. It’s your burger, your rules.

Ingredients

  • 250 g Mushrooms champignon, oyster, portobello—whatever you like, finely chopped
  • 1 red onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 4 tbsp Olive oil
  • Salt & black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Oatmeal quick or rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup Bread crumbs
  • 1 egg optional, for binding
  • Fresh parsley chopped
  • Chili flakes
  • Taco spice mix
  • spices and herbs you can add other herbs and spices you want.

Instructions

  • In a pan, heat some olive oil. SautĂ© the red onion and garlic for a few minutes until soft and fragrant.
  • Add finely chopped mushrooms to the pan. Season with salt and black pepper. Let them release their water—this is key. Keep cooking until all the liquid evaporates. The drier the mix, the firmer your burger.
  • In a bowl, combine the mushroom mixture with oatmeal, breadcrumbs, parsley, chili flakes, paprika, taco spice, and any other seasoning you like. Add the egg if you’re using it.
  • Mix until everything holds together like a dough. Let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes—this helps everything bind and deepens the flavor.
  • Form into burger patties. Cook them your way:
  • Grill over open fire for a smoky flavor or Pan-fry with a bit of oil until golden. Alternatively toss in the air fryer for about 10 minutes.
